General Conference

This was Anna's "coming of age" General Conference! By that I mean the first conference where she actually realized something special was going on.

Her favorite thing to do is color the faces on this General Authorities poster, and thankfully this year she didn't obliterate everyone with black crayon, but just circled the ones who spoke and colored other random faces. And thank heavens for Elder Jeffrey R Holland who actually still looks like his official picture, so she was finally able to identify somebody on the TV all by herself!

I was also surprised by how long Anna was entertained by her Conference activity book. She colored it steadfastly for almost an hour on Saturday morning and requested a new one on Sunday morning which I printed out (some pages the same, and some new ones) and again she colored quietly for almost an hour! Emma did everything her big sister did too. Even though the girls did not pay the slightest bit of attention to any of the talks, I thought it was pretty cool today when the choir and congregation sang a hymn together, Anna correctly announced to me that we were halfway done.
Now, I know this next picture doesn't look like Jakob was enjoying himself (and to be honest, those Conference bingo boards are IMPOSSIBLE to win because no-one ever talks about the word of wisdom or tithing any more) but lets cut him some slack because he wasn't feeling well, and the picture with his fake smile was much less flattering. The truth is Jakob LOVES General Conference. He is so excited to turn 12 and start our family tradition of getting to go to Salt Lake City and attend a Priesthood Session (or YW Conference for the girls) for real! In the meantime, he makes do with getting all dressed up on Sunday morning and going to the Stake Center to watch the Sunday morning session on the big screen. He even faked feeling better this morning so he wouldn't miss out on it. It's a tradition we started way back when Jakob was first learning the concept of going to church on Sundays.

In a prayer today Anna said "Thank you for generful conference and please bless him."
I love General Conference!

Honestly we didn't even brave watching conference with the kids. Thank goodness for Utah and On Demand! We were lucky enough to go to the Sunday morning session, which I loved! Hopefully next year the kids will be better behaved.

Wow, you guys are so good! I love the traditions you have to make conference more meaningful.
